Short description of your art.

Watchiya! My name is Babbeyjane Happyjack and I am small business owner of Original by Nomads. I design all graphic designs on my products. Each pieces of art represent a story that connects our traditional lifestyle and indigenous pride into one. Original by Nomads is connecting with supporters across the province map by operating mobily and fulfilling community's needs when travelling to community's and gatherings to sell products in person.

Where did you learn your art?

I started doing art at a very young age. It also begun when I watched my mom and kokum bead and sew mittens for hours. I loved seeing their colourful final results. I found peace sitting down and mix matching colors on my painting and drawings. I knew arts was my form of healing.

Where do you find inspiration for your work?

I find inspirations in nature, medicinal plants on ancestral land, animals, pow wow colors and indigenous icons.

Have you received any formal training?

I acquired experience working with children for 10 years, coordinating art workshop daily and working with them sharpened my skills. The only course I did was to learn to digitalize my art to develop my business.

What other art forms do you practice?

I sing and still in the learning process of traditional singing.

Have you ever received any awards or special recognition?

yes. cweia , women and health promotion 2015 and youth fitness award in Waswanipi, I was a certified group fitness instructor and fulfilled a 5 years contracts with Waswanipi band.

Do you sell your work? If so, how?

I do, mobile pop up shop across pow wows and native gatherings.

Has your art work ever been mentioned in any media?

I just wrapped up an interview with R magazine and CBC Mamauitaau. the release should be soon.
