Short description of your art.

I have done beadwork ever since I was young teenager. I am now retired from my work for nearly 40 years at CBC in broadcasting radio and television, and managing the CBC North-Quebec unit. Since my retirement I’m interested in so many art forms and taking courses in sewing. I’ve been making handbags for over 2 years. I’m also into sewing other various products, and have started quilting recently.

Where did you learn your art?

I learned beadwork from my late mother. I had trading from professionals in the field of radio and television, and went to Ryerson for summer courses. I have taken various sewing classes from Penelope in St-Hubert. I’m presently taking different courses as they become available.

Where do you find inspiration for your work?

My inspiration comes from finished products, watching videos of different products and try them.

Have you received any formal training?

For broadcasting, I got a lot of trading over the years from professionals in the field ex: storytelling, interviewing techniques, hosting skills, how to put stories together, etc As I said previously I’m taking sewing courses using different fabrics.

What other art forms do you practice?

A little of painting from recyclables

Have you ever received any awards or special recognition?

Yes, I received honourable mentions, awards for the different stories I did as a journalist. I also received an award from CNACA. I received an lifetime achievement award from RTDNA Canada

Do you sell your work? If so, how?

Mostly community

Has your art work ever been mentioned in any media?

Please provide any information on your buyers.

I sell my products by word of mouth in the communities. I have also my handbags at Calico quilting store in Kahnawake.
