Short description of your art.

Silas Katapatuk aka Slice is a Cree Hip-hop artist, hailing from the Cree Nation of Wemindji located in Northern Quebec. His sound blends in with other genres like pop, trap, rock, and everything in between, most of his beats include guitars and bass. His style is influenced by Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Timbaland, Wu-Tang just to name a few. He was featured on N’we Jinan’s Vol. 1 back in 2014, where the album reached #1 on iTunes, it was coordinated by Cree Nation Youth Council and the whole project was produced by David Hodges. He writes his own lyrics in both Cree and English. He is very involved with his community by having his own songwriting and beat making workshops with his collaborators Bradley Georgekish, Chris Sutherland (Shibastik). He studied Music Industry Arts program at Algonquin College.

Where did you learn your art?

I learned it from people that I have met on my journey, David Hodges, Chris Sutherland (AKA Shibastik), Paul Napash, Christian Monias (AKA Cjay-Griz) just to name a few, also by watching youtube tutorials and online research.

Where do you find inspiration for your work?

I find inspiration in our communities, where as my music is based on the struggles of community struggles if it would social issues, mental health, cultural stereotypes.. etc.

Have you received any formal training?

yes from my work with inPath/Mikwchiyam and when i studied music industry arts program at Algonquin College.

Have you ever received any awards or special recognition?

I have won local artist of the year awards and special recognition in music, locally.

Do you sell your work? If so, how?

i distribute all of my music through all major platforms such as spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and so on.

Has your art work ever been mentioned in any media?

Was part of the Nwe'Jinan Volume 1 album.
