Saige “Nalakwsis” Mukash (they/them) is an Illustrator, beadwork artist , photographer and writer, who hails from Whapmagoostui, QC. Nalakwsis focuses on four special categories which are racial issues, climate and the environment, LGBTQ +/2spirit awarness and issues, and indigenous photographers.
In 2018, they started a social media challenge called the “Bead this in your style”, to encourage bead-workers of different levels to express themselves and show their design/work from selected designs drawings. Nalakwsis is self-taught, and continues to be inspired by Eeyou culture, history and legends, in Whapmagoostui.

The award aims to promote a positive image of young people, to generate awareness of the valuable contributions that youth make to our community, and to encourage and support their continued engagement and creativity in the arts and crafts sector.
