Short description of your art.

Traditional & Contemporary Cree/Inuit Artist. I do beadwork, embroidery, moose hide crafts, sealskin crafts, outfit making, ceremonial items, etc. Powwow dance & regalia making instructor. Beadwork & embroidery workshop animator. Traditional & powwow outfit designer. 19 century James Bay Cree material culture replicas and original maker.

Where did you learn your art?

I learnt to sew and craft from my grandmothers Mary Herodier Menarick, Annie Herodier, Minnie Fleming, my mother Patricia Menarick, my aunts Ruby, Violet & Lillian Menarick. Also learnt from my Cree Culture teachers, Mariah Fireman, Agnes Shem, Margaret Bearskin, Daisy Kanatewat & Martha Bearskin. I took a parka/amautik making workshop in Chisasibi and learnt from Jennifer May. I've attended various community crafting workshops and learnt from Annie Nayasit, Anna Grant, Alice Shecapio-Blacksmith & Mona Tolley.

Where do you find inspiration for your work?

As a child I loved watching my grandmother's sew. I remember I would take breaks from playing and check up on what they were making. I always admired the beautiful designs and colours they used and I loved watching their progress. I always said to myself that one day I would like to sew beautiful crafts just like they did.

What other art forms do you practice?

I enjoy drawing my own floral designs. I occasionally paint and I am a Fancy Shawl Powwow dancer.

Have you ever received any awards or special recognition?

Honour of being head female dancer at multiple Traditional Powwows & Special Powwow performance dancer in community events.
