Press Release – Status on Forest Fires in the Region of Eeyou Istchee

Ouje-Bougoumou, QC. June 6, 2023 – In an unfortunate turn of events, the forest fires in the province of Quebec have been causing widespread damage and the Region of Eeyou Istchee has been greatly affected. The forest fires have quickly escalated due to the weather conditions, resulting in a challenging situation for the firefighters and emergency response teams.

Efforts to extinguish the fires are currently underway and additional resources have been deployed by the Government of Canada. Public safety remains the top priority and we urge everyone to follow instructions from emergency services to ensure safety. Please stay informed on the situation through community announcements, news media, Quebec government website, SOPFEU website, and more.

We express our deepest gratitude to the firefighters, SOPFEU, emergency response teams, and all those involved in the ongoing firefighting operations. Their efforts and bravery are commendable and greatly appreciated. Our thoughts are with all those affected by these devastating forest fires.
