Ronnie Rupert hails from the Cree Nation of Chisasibi. He learned how to play the fiddle from his uncle Sam and his cousin Conrard at the early age of 11. He plays traditional music and various other genres including blue grass. Ronnie can be found performing in weddings and dance competitions. He has toured Eeyou Istchee and played in Montreal, Ottawa and Val D’or. He had the opportunity to play with Claude Mckenzie (Kashtin) during a show in Waswanipi. Ronnie has also recorded and released an album.
The Best Fiddler award is awarded to the best fiddler in Eeyou Istchee.
