Paul Napash (professionally known as PaulStar) is a Cree artist, multi-instrumentalist, music producer, audio engineer and CEO/manager of his own record label called Meikin Records/PaulStar Entertainment. He is from Chisasibi & Waskaganish and is currently based in Ottawa. During the COVID pandemic, he collaborated with InPath/N’we Jinan’s Arts Concentration program called “Mikw Chyam”, where he taught music production to Cree students in Waskaganish. He has received sponsorships from companies like TakingItGlobal, in which he received funding for a new MacBook computer to facilitate new music projects, music videos, and live streams.
He is a frequent collaborator and produces for many artists and was nominated for “Producer of the Year” at the International Indigenous Hip-Hip Awards Show in 2021 and was also nominated again in 2022. He is an independent artist and is also currently signed with Beatstars/Sony Music Publishing, a publishing subsidiary of Sony Entertainment Inc. He produced a song called “Queen” and co-produced “Unceded” with CJAY GRiZ for Melody McArthur’s album titled “Kizmet”. The latter of which went to #1 on the national Indigenous Music Countdown (IMC). He also produced Violent Ground’s new single “Meant for More” featuring Melody McArthur. Napash is currently working with Miami-based R&B artist – NwClr (formerly known as Smoove), a successful artist who was previously signed to East West Records/Atlantic Records. NwClr is known for his two charting singles that were on Billboard’s Top 100 – “Back at the Ranch” (which made it to #39) and “All About Her” (which peaked at #25). Napash met and started working with NwClr and his business partner/manager R.H back in May 2022 through social media and have continued to work together on new projects. He has also performed live numerous times and currently has a weekly artist residency at The Lafayette and Live On Elgin, located in Ottawa.
Napash is currently relaunching his career and has created a record label named Meikin Records. Meikin Records started off with 5 artists and has tripled in growth and currently has 16 artists, while more artists have expressed interest in joining the label’s expanding roster.
Napash previously released an EP called “Find Myself” (2020) and an album called “Lost” (2012), (which are both available on streaming platforms). Napash is currently working on a double album called “Bring It All Together” and mentioned that he doesn’t “want to rush this project – quality over quantity”. The double album is almost finished and will contain two versions that will focus on classic vs. modern hip-hop/pop genres while showcasing all his talents as a Cree artist.
