Ouje-Bougoumou, QC: December 10, 2019 – The Cree Native Arts & Crafts Association is proud to announce the results of their 2nd Cree On-line Poetry & Song writing competition. From November 18th to 30th, 2019, the Cree Nation of Eeyou Istchee was given the opportunity to submit a recording of an original song or poem performed in Cree. The submissions were posted on the Cree Native Arts and Crafts Facebook page for on-line judging.
Here are the official results for each of the categories:
Song writing
First: Nib-bin-atseeyin by Brian Fireman, $1000
Second: Whiskeychans by Diane Bosum, $750
Third: Iiyuuiituun by Silas Katapatuk, $500
Honorable Mention: Betchweechow by Christopher Snowboy, $250
Special Language Prize: Whap-ten by Johnny Cooper Sr., $250
Poetry
First: Weskach Chihchuweh Napeuch Kaa by John Phillip Bosum, $1000
Second: Nuuwejewahkin by Freddie Dixon, $750
Third: Mmstukuj, dahn stihnihm by Stacey Taylor, $500
Honorable Mention: Piimaatisiiwin by Daisy Visitor, $250

The CNACA On-line Poetry & Song writing competition is a way to help present, promote and bring recognition to our Cree artists and artisans for their outstanding contribution and exemplary dedication to the arts in Eeyou Istchee.
